History

The Department of History of Ukraine was established in June 1990, and since November 2018, it has had its current name – the Department of History of Ukraine and Methods of Teaching History. The establishment of the department became possible in the conditions of the new national revival of the late 1980s. It took place on the eve of the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Ukraine on July 16, 1990, which was a milestone step on the path to the proclamation of an independent Ukrainian state. At the time of its establishment, the department had four teachers and a senior laboratory assistant (the current rector, Professor I.Ye. Tsependa). As of the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, the department has 10 full-time teachers and a senior laboratory assistant. The department was headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Volodymyr Vasylovych Hrabovetsky (1990–2007), and from March 2007 to the present day – Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Ihor Yaroslavovych Raykivsky.
