    Mykhailo Syhydyn was born on November 17, 1960 in Yenakiieve, Donetsk region. In 1978 he graduated from Yamnytsya secondary school of Tysmenytsia district of Ivano-Frankivsk region. After graduating from school he worked as a technician in the research sector of Ivano-Frankivsk Institute of Oil and Gas. During 1980-1982 he served in the army. He was awarded the Medal of Merit.
After demobilization he entered the historical faculty of Vasyl Stefanyk Ivano-Frankivsk State Pedagogical Institute, graduating with honors in 1987. He worked as a teacher of history and social sciences at Poberezhzhia secondary school in Tysmenytsia district. Since 1988 he has been a senior laboratory assistant at the Department of History of the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR of the Vasyl Stefanyk Ivano-Frankivsk State Pedagogical Institute. In 1988-1991 he studied in graduate school with a break from production at the Department of History of the USSR and the USSR of the Kyiv State Pedagogical Institute named after M. Gorkyi.
Since 1991 he has worked at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University as an assistant, senior lecturer, associate professor of the history of Ukraine. From September 1999 – Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History, and after its reorganization in 2005 into the Institute of History and Political Science – Deputy Director of the Institute. Since 2016 – Deputy Dean of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations.
In 2012, Mykhailo Syhydyn has headed the Research and Education Center of the Ukrainian Cossacks named after Colonel Semen Vysochan of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. At the initiative of the center in 2013 the All-Ukrainian scientific conference dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the first campaign of the Zaporozhian Cossacks to Prykarpattia was held on the basis of the Precarpathian National University and the Museum of the History of Kolomyia.
The sphere of scientific interests of Mykhailo Syhydyn covers the problems of the history of the Ukrainian Cossacks, the Ukrainian revolution of the XVII century, the early modern period of Ukrainian history. He is the author and co-author of more than 70 scientific, popular science and educational publications, including 10 collective monographs, a number of historiographical and source studies, as well as local lore. Manages the work of undergraduates and actively publishes in co-authorship with students. Student scientific works performed under his managing have repeatedly been awarded diplomas of the first, second and third degrees of the All-Ukrainian competitions of student scientific works of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Associate Professor Mykhailo Syhydyn developed and taught training courses for students of historical specialties «History of Ukraine in the early modern period of the XVII – XVIII centuries», «History of the Ukrainian Cossacks», «Historiography of the History of Ukraine», «Trends in the development of the Ukrainian national-state idea».
Mykhailo Syhydyn has been a participant in many international, national and regional scientific conferences. Since 2014 he has been the Deputy Chairman of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Organization of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine.
He was awarded the Diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2002), the Diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as the head of the winner of the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers (2008), the Diploma of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council (2017). In 2015 he was awarded the title of «Honorary Local Historian of Ukraine». He is a laureate of the Volodymyr Poliek Regional Prize in the field of local lore in 2014; Laureate of the Dmytro Yavornytskyi Prize of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine in 2016.
