    Pylypiv Ihor Vasyliovych was born on June 13, 1957 in the village of Ilemnia, Rozhniativ district, Ivano-Frankivsk region. In 1979, he graduated from the Historical and Pedagogical Faculty of Vasyl Stefanyk Ivano-Frankivsk State Pedagogical Institute with the qualifications of a teacher of history, social studies, and an education methodologist. In between 1979 and 1984 he worked as a history and social studies teacher at Spaska Secondary School in Rozhniativ District. From 1984 to 1986, he was a postgraduate student at the Department of History at Ivan Franko Lviv State University. In February 1987, he defended his PhD thesis and received the degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences in specialty 07.00.01 – history of political parties and public movements. In 1992 he joined the teaching staff of Vasyl Stefanyk Ivano-Frankivsk State Pedagogical Institute and worked at the Department of History of Ukraine as a assistant professor, in 1996 he got the position of an associate professor.

    In May 2003, Ihor Pylypiv became the Chair of the Department of General Economic and Humanitarian Disciplines of Ivano-Frankivsk Educational and Scientific Institute of Management of Ternopil Academy of National Economy (later – Ternopil National Economic University, and then Western Ukrainian National University). In between 2003 and 2011, he was also the Head of Ivano-Frankivsk Educational and Scientific Institute of Management.

    In December 2011, he defended his doctoral dissertation at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University on the topic “The Greek Catholic Church in the Social and Political Life of the Second Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1918–1939)”, the specialty 07.00.01. – History of Ukraine. In July 2013, he received the  academic title of Full Professor of the Department of Humanities.

    Since October 2019, he has been working at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University as a professor at the Department of History of Ukraine and Methodology of Teaching History.

    In December 2009, V.Yushchenko, the President of Ukraine, awarded him the honorary title of “Merited Education Worker of Ukraine”.

    Ihor Pylypiv is the scientific advisor and supervisor of the two PhD dissertations (Deliatynsky R.I., Horan T.A.). He has been on editorials boards of scientific journals e.g. “Scientific Notes of Volodymyr Hnatyuk Ternopil National Pedagogical University. Series: History”, “Scientific Bulletin of Ivano-Frankivsk Theological University of the UGCC “Dobry Pastyr”. Theology”, etc.

    Member of the Specialized Academic Council D 20.051.05 of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University for the defense of dissertations for the degree of Doctor (Candidate) of Historical Sciences in the specialties 07.00.01 – History of Ukraine, 07.00.05 – Ethnology (2015–2019).

    Author of over 100 scientific publications on the history of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Ukrainian-Polish relations, political parties and organizations of the late 19th – first half of the 20th century, and religious influence on the socio-political life of Ukraine at the turn of the XXI century.
